8 FOCUS - NOVEMBER 2017 For over 30 years now, Larry Doble has been working to main- tain and improve the historic 150-year-old Greenbank Centennial Hall. Through a series of federal, provincial, and corporate grants the hall has steadily been brought up to code and made wheel- chair accessible, yet still maintains its historical features. Now that the new exterior kitchen addition has been complet- ed, Larry has obtained a $25,000 Farm Credit Canada AgriSpirit Fund grant to furnish the kitchen interior to make it more attrac- tive for caterers using the hall for a huge variety of community events. The competition for these Canada-wide grants is very challenging: only 78 projects were chosen out of over 1,200 applications. The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards grants annually, $1.5 million in total, to rural community projects as part of FCC’s commitment to reinvest in the communities they serve. Here, Larry is receiving the $25,000 cheque from the Lindsay FCC office.
