56 FOCUS - JUNE 2017 WORKS DEPARTMENT PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE The Region of Durham is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to plan for additional water supply and storage capacity to service the Port Perry Urban Area, and to improve naturally occurring aesthetic characteristics of the existing municipal water supply (taste, odour and colour). What stage is the study currently at? Thus far, the Region has consulted with the public and agencies on the objectives of the study, water supply alternatives, water storage alternatives, and the criteria used to evaluate the alternatives. Considering comments received to date, the recommended approach is to install an additional municipal well (to supplement the existing municipal wells), construct a new water treatment plant (that will treat all water supplied to Port Perry), and construct a new elevated water tower (to supplement the existing water tower). This approach would also allow for a new bulk water filling station that would be located at the new elevated water tower (and the existing bulk water filling station on Simcoe St. would be decommissioned). How can I provide comment? Anyone with an interest in the study may attend either of the following PIC sessions to provide comment: Date: Wednesday, June 14 Times: 2 to 4 p.m. (Presentation at 2:30 p.m.) 6 to 8 p.m. (Presentation at 6:30 p.m.) Location: Scugog Memorial Public Library, 231 Water Street, Port Perry Representatives from the study team will be present to answer any questions that you may have. Display panels will also be available for viewing, and a question & answer session will follow each of the presentations. This PIC will present conceptual designs for the recommended works. Following this PIC, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared to document the findings and recommendations of this Class EA. The ESR will be made available for public review in the Fall of 2017 to confirm the recommendations prior to implementation. Your input is welcome at any time throughout the study, and may be submitted to: Beata Golas, Project Manager Region of Durham Works Department Tel: 905- 668-7711, Ext. 3447 e-mail: Beata.Golas@durham.ca Rika Law, Project Manager R.V.
