38 FOCUS - JUNE 2017 PROUD TO BE Canada Day Committee repre- sentative Terry Vos says, “Every- thing is being tripled,” for Canada Day celebrations at Palmer Park in Port Perry for the 150th. Usually, he donates 1,500 cupcakes through his store Vos Independent, but for 2017, he is donating 4,500! Weather per- mitting, this spectacular confection will be displayed in Palmer Park prior to everybody digging in. Plans are for amazing cake decorations, featuring Canada Day logos and historic Scugog photos. His staff are enlisting the support of community volunteers to roll up their sleeves and do some of the icing! “Canada Day weekend will not be boring in Port Perry,” Terry com- mented. “There will be activities of interest to people of all ages, at very little cost.” Saturday July 1 kicks off with the grand opening ceremonies following the popular ‘Vettes for Vets’ parade. Then it’s time to cut the ceremonial cake! Music and other entertainment will take place all day, at the gazebo and at a large stage being set up across from it. Old Flame Brewery will have a beer tent and Maple Leaf Schneider foods are providing a hot dog lunch for donations only. “There will be activities in the Kids’ Zone to keep the children busy all day!” Terry promises. Everything from bounce houses to face painting and more. Terry and some others attended ‘Fireworks School,’ so this year’s show promises to be even more dra- matic than ever, with “more intensity and less lags.” For Canada 150, the fireworks budget was hiked up to $15,000. Prepare to be amazed! Sunday morning, July 2, the festivities continue with a pancake breakfast at the Latcham Centre. The cost is whatever you wish to donate. Kids’ fun goes on until 2 p.m. “Port Perry is the place to be on Canada Day weekend!” Terry enthused. CELEBRATE WITH ONE OF 4,500 CUPCAKES! FREE 2017 DISCOVERY PASS Celebrate Canada 150!
