FOCUS - JUNE 2017 33 PROUD TO BE Canada 150 weekend will be cel- ebrated in high style in Port Perry with an exciting three-day event, the SCUGOG SUMMER JAM mu- sic festival. Chair of the organizing commit- tee Anil Maharaj says that it’s going to be “awesome!” All the talent is Canadian, a perfect fit for Canada Day. A lifelong resident of Port Perry, Anil noted that, “This is the first time that Port Perry has ever done anything this big. We are going to make a big splash with the music festival.” “Tourists will be drawn to Port Perry for this major event and it should put Scugog on the map as a viable place for music,” he added. The Port Perry Fairgrounds is the spacious venue for this three- day musical extravaganza, with top name performers, Big Wreck and Aaron Pritchett, plus other popular entertainers, all taking to the stage. There will be a clear span tent large enough to accommodate 3,500 people, so the show will go on rain or shine. Age of majority wristbands will be issued, and all ages are welcome. The gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 30, “Rock & Roll Day.” Big Wreck will entertain you, as well as special guests, The Pick Brothers Band and The Bomb. There will be lots of food, drinks and vendors available. The beer tent opens at 4 p.m., with the Waterloo Brewing Co. serving up the suds. Blackstock’s own Tracey Lukic is a rep for this brewery. “We are trying to keep everything local,” Anil commented. On Saturday July 1, Juno nomi- nee Aaron Pritchett is the headliner, along with special guests Brooklyn Roebuck and Marshall Dane. The country music fun gets underway at 4 p.m. Tickets are available from Vos Independent or through TICKET- FLY.com. Advance tickets are $35 per night or $40 at the gate. $60 gets you a ticket for both spectacular nights. Sunday’s entertainment is free of charge and promises to be a great time. Local musical guests and spe- cial events are being confirmed. Both Scugog Township council and the Fair Board Committee have been supportive of what may be the first of many local music festivals, Anil hopes. His two teenaged daughters, who are in a rock band called The Grape Lady Falls, will also perform. “We hope to create something sustainable for local youth in mu- sic,” he concluded.
