10 FOCUS MARCH 2018 EASTER FOOLISHNESS IS COMING TO TOWN! Port Perry’s Easter Bonnet Parade & Contest (& Petting Zoo too!) returns on April 1st Ah, the time has come where we can see spring on the not-so-distant horizon – when all ages come to- gether to celebrate surviving another bitter winter with a fun-filled Easter parade. This will be the Church Chicks United’s 9th year to put on this exciting event that has shown to be a family favourite. The Chicks of the Port Perry United Church always manage to keep their Easter Bonnet event fresh and growing each year. With Easter coinciding with April Fools’ Day, this year promises to be even more fun than ever before. One of this year’s additions will be a new bonnet category of “Most Foolish” (for ages 5-15). “The spring animal Petting Zoo was a huge success last year” says Pam Hollett (a.k.a. Bo Peep) who is the event’s MC and co-chair. Pam says the Church Chicks are thrilled that the Port Perry BIA will again be sponsor- ing the petting zoo and is quick to credit the event’s growing success to their two veteran sponsors: Cakes By Stephanie and The Kids Cupboard. “Our first year we had no idea what to expect and we held the bonnet contest on the Post Office front steps.” She ex- plained that the second year the chicks brought it down to the centre of Queen St. and made proper roping barriers to keep the participants safe and able to be viewed both by spectators and judging. Then Stephanie of Cakes By Stephanie, offered to give each and every bonnet contest participant one of her delicious cupcakes, followed by Karen Staniland of the Kid’s Cupboard, sponsoring the stunning horse show quality prize ribbons. Pam said “What started out as a quirky little Easter Bonnet Contest has now turned into a full fledged Easter event and we couldn’t be more thrilled at how it’s grown”. The petting zoo and Easter Bonnet registration (in front of RBC) starts at 11:30 a.m. The Bonnet Contest starts promptly at 12 noon in front of the Post Office on Queen St. Don’t forget to stay for The Nutty Chocolatier’s 30th annual Easter Egg Hunt at 1 p.m. immediately following the Bonnet Contest (for ages 3-7). The Church Chicks want every- one to remember that the bonnet contest is for all ages and there is a category for everyone. All you need is a hat, a glue-gun and your imagina- tion – and remember that all money donated at the event goes to the Scugog Memorial Library’s Children’s and Teen’s Section.
