FOCUS - JULY 2015 59 Letters to the editor continued Mailbox continued from page 55 Best kept secret in Canada for youth Dear Editor The Royal Canadian Army Cadets of the 41 Port Perry High School Army Cadet Corps celebrated the end of a years worth of training with their Annual Ceremonial Review and Ontario Regiment Cadet Garrison Annual Ceremonial Review a short time ago. The cadets showed their skills through drills and parade putting their best foot forward for inspection. Once again our 41 Cadets have made us proud said Unit Public Affairs Representative C. Ryan Edgar. This is the culmination of a years worth of training showing their skills that theyve acquired over the cadet year September to June. The local ACR was conducted by Major C. Blight Regional Cadet Advisor who was our Reviewing Officer in Port Perry while Her Worship Uxbridge Mayor Gerri Lynn OConnor was the Reviewing Officer for this years Garrison Inspection hosted in Uxbridge by our friends of 76 Uxbridge Secondary School. Both reviews included formal band displays and formal parade procedures. It showcases the best of what weve done over this past year said Edgar. This is a big moment so we want to show off what we are capable of. This is a graduation that signifies the end of another successful training year.Cadets can then move on to summer training centres. The cadet program itself provides insight into leadership citizenship and community he said. This is a great youth organization for those who are looking for structure fun and some hands on activities that you normally wouldnt encounter. Edgar maintains that the cadet corps is one of the best kept secrets in Canada for youth. Not a lot of people are aware of the cadet program he said. The program itself helps youth to grow into adults it gives them discipline social skills and any of the skills required to work in any setting as an adult. Our 41 Cadets still have a couple of events scheduled before the end of the year including a year-end party and supporting our local Vets for Vets this coming Canada Day. Finally let me say thanks to our Cadets. Your successes and achievements as you become the upstanding citizens and leaders of tomorrow is the reward of your Officers Staff and Volunteers of the Ontario Regiment Cadet Garrison. Should you know of a youth aged 12-18 years of age who might be interested in joining 41 PPHS RCArmyCC please do not hesitate to contact us at 41ArmyCadetsgmail.com or by contacting our Unit Public Affairs Representative at 905-260-3299.
