Her family’s welding shop, RAHM, was the perfect place to learn how to use the tools of her trade and practice doing 3-D work. Her dad Rob is very proud of Jasmine’s success. “She is 100 per cent focused and into it,” he commented. “She has made me a believer in art!” The BYC Pitch Competition was good practice for public speaking about her goals and her artwork. She was “so pleased” to be one of the finalists. This led to her appearance on the Marilyn Denis show, where Kevin O’Leary of Dragon’s Den fame advised her to go to New York and get an agent. This summer, Jasmine is also participating in a NEET Youth Incubator (NYI) program to assist young entrepreneurs. Networking with established art- ists has also been valuable. “Everyone has been so encourag- ing,” she says. “I’ve learned so much!” Jasmine is benefiting from the Business Program at UOIT. She real- izes that as an artist, it’s also impor- tant to be knowledgeable about the business side of things. One important lesson Jasmine has learned is how to reinvest some of the profits. She purchased a 10x10 tent to do outdoor art and craft shows. “It’s exciting,” she says. Given the choice between a traditional, regular paycheck sum- mer job, or concentrating on her art career, Jasmine feels confident that she “made the right decision.” She’s devoted to perfecting her craft and doing promotional work. “It’s my passion,” concluded the enthusiastic young artist.
