FOCUS - JULY 2018 15 Richard Gauder of CMS Web Solu- tions here in Port Perry and Regional Councillor Bobbie Drew nominated the Scugog Lake Stewards for the 2018 Durham Environmental Adviso- ry Committee (DEAC) Achievement Award and they came out on top! “The award is given to those whose efforts have helped maintain, protect and preserve our natural and/or agricultural heritage”. Barbara Karthein, President of the Scugog Lake Stewards, along with a large contingent were on hand to ac- cept the award on Wednesday May 30. Barbara excitedly commented “although we have a large group with us tonight, it is definitely not all those who over the years have worked so hard for the lake. A big thanks to everyone who made this possible”. A healthy Lake Scugog is of vital economic and environmental impor- tance to our Township. Therefore, the Lake Stewards are so happy to set the wheels in motion for Mayor Rowett to officially proclaim this first annual Lake Week to celebrate that importance. The Port Perry BIA, the Chamber of Commerce and many businesses and organizations within the town- ship are supporting this. AUGUST 11 - Put aside this even- ing and enjoy dancing under the full August moon. It will be held in the courtyard of Old Flame Brewery with its charming Edison lamps, a band, si- lent auction and of course the celebra- tion of summer nights near the lake. AUGUST 19 - Calling all moms and dads, kids and all townsfolk. Come to the waterfront and Latcham Centre from 1 - 4:30 p.m. to learn to fish and then try your hand.
