This neighbourhood event, planned for Friday August 17, is being billed as, “an evening of fun and fellowship with a fast paced auction and some music.” DRIVE FOR THE HOSPICE This promises to be a great June event. It’s open to anyone interested in supporting the hospice campaign. Taylor Ford will bring six beautiful new vehicles to Canterbury Common for free test drives around the ‘hood. For each person who enjoys a test drive, Taylor Ford will donate $10 to the North Durham Hospice. CELEBRATION DAY STREET PARTY Dinner, music and an auction will all be featured at this event for Canterbury residents, past and present, in the north parking lot, on Saturday September 8. at 4 p.m. Neil says that 300 people are expected to attend and there will be Uber drivers. CANTERBURY ON PARADE Neil recalls how much everyone enjoyed the Silver Dragons’ parade in celebration of 10 years of Dragon Boat racing. A fun-filled hour long parade is planned for Saturday June 9 at 3 p.m. People from outside Canterbury Common are welcome to attend. Participants are encouraged to ride bikes, scooters, motorcycles, lawn tractors, convertibles, classic cars or pick- up trucks. Imaginative costumes will add to the frivolity. Hot dogs and cookies will be sold at the Clubhouse for $2. “It would be nice if groups came from retirement homes,” said Neil. DOOR TO DOOR CANVAS From August 13-17, volunteers will go door to door in Canterbury Common seeking donations for the North Durham Hospice. Tax receipts will be available. “Think about giving locally in 2018,” Neil suggested. JULY HOUSE AND GARDEN TOUR Neil, who moved into the last house built, a Jefferson model in 2002, noted how interesting it is to see how others with the same style of home have chosen to decorate, renovate and furnish it. There are seven different architectural designs in Canterbury Common, to be showcased on the house tour in July. Passports will be available for $10 each to Canterbury residents, their friends and family members. GRAND AUCTION Big prizes donated by local businesses and Canterbury residents will be up for grabs at the Grand Auction conducted by Harvey Graham on Saturday September 8.
