34 FOCUS - MARCH 2016 Marilyn and her husband Ric Pearce operate Silver Creek Books and Antiques from their Port Perry home and are constantly looking for items of a heritage nature. Recently they were invited to look over some items prior to an estate sale. While looking through the items on display she happened to notice some old papers in a box in the garbage. She asked the owner if she could look at them. He told her to take them and keep them. He was just anxious to get rid of stu she said. At home she took a detailed look at the papers and found that they were all old deeds pertain- ing to land sales in Scugog. To her astonishment she came across an 1847 deed of sale for lot 58 the present-day Wagg Funeral Home. The deed was for the sale of that property by Peter Perry and his wife Mary to John W. Davis. The unusual aspect of the 1847 document was that it was SIGNED IN BLOOD At the bottom of the document are three small piecesofgauzeoneeachforPeterPerryJohnDavis and Mary Perry to hold a sample of their blood.
