b'Last month in our April issue, we featured two Chamber members honoured with appreciation awardsand a mention of a first time ever volunteer award presented by the Scugog Chamber. Many of you know Jillian, but for those who dont, meet her here.Scugog Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Jillian Howsam-Adomeit shares Santa Claus parade memorieshere was the year that the Santa Claus parade wasalmostcancelledduetofreezingrain,but the township crews came out to sand the slippery roads just in the nick of time.And then there was the year that the crowd went wild because there were live lions and tigers in the parade.Every year, the childrens faces light up when Santa Clausmakeshissmilingappearance,wavingandex-claiming in his deep voice, Ho! Ho! Ho!And thats what makes devoting at least 75 hours annuallyservingasChairoftheSantaClausParade Committee worth it for Jillian Howsam-Adomeit. Ilovetheparade,sheenthused.Everyoneisso excited. Its a magical night.SURPRISED BY AWARDJill arrived late, at 12:25 p.m. to the Mayors Luncheon. She heard the recipient of the first annual Bob Brozina Volunteer of the Year Award being described as a volun-teer for over 15 years who started at the age of 12. This sounded familiar.Whats going on? Jill wondered. She was told to be there at a certain time to be sworn in as a Director of the Chamber of Commerce.She still had her coat on when ScugogChamberofCommerce ExecutiveDirectorKareyAnne Large announced Jills name as the award winner.I was so surprised, Jill recalled.Jillian looked very surprised as she accepted the first ever Bob Brozina Vounteer of the Year award.OTHER HATSWhile Jill is well known for her involvement with the parade, she has worn many other volunteer hats.Shes been an active member of the Chamber for 19 years. She helps with events held by Big Brothers Big Sisters. Supporting the Community Gift Giving Program at Port Perry Place is her pet project. Jill is one of the car-ingpeoplewhoensurethateveryresidentreceivesa Christmas present. When she was a student at Port Perry High School, she did a co-op at this nursing home and since those days, seniors have and always will be close to her heart.Please turn to page 17FOCUS - MAY 202215'
