Bills group encouraged the Federal GovernmentWilliam (Bill) Brock was elected Historical Museum, President of the Historical Society in topreserveandrestoretheexterioroftheMay 1969.the climax of two building. In 1974 the Old Town Hall at the corner of Queen and Simcoe was slated for years of work by the demolition. Bill led the creation of a committee to restore the building and to turn Lake Scugog it into an entertainment centre.Beginning in 1970 Bill began to search through the Ontario Archives for pho-Historical Society. tographs and other artifacts related to the Lake Scugog region in order to establish the Scugog Archives. Since Bill Brock was the first president of the Lake Scugog Historical Society, at the May 21 meeting special attention will be given to his leadership in local heritage matters. The 50th anniversary celebration meeting will get underway at 7 p.m. with an Annual General Meeting. This will be followed by a slide show featuring many people and events from the Historical Societys past half-century. Tributes will be paid to many people who have contributed to the success and accomplishments of the society.The current president of the Historical Society, Paul Arculus, will conclude the meeting with a presentation on one of Bill Brocks favourite topics: the Nip n Tuck, the railway that ran from Whitby to Port Perry and later to Lindsay.The 50th birthday celebration of the Lake Scugog Historical Society will be held on Tuesday May 21 beginning at 7 p.m. at the St. Johns Presbyterian Church, 319 Queen St., Port Perry, right across the road from Town Hall 1873.
