A: The Oak Ridges Hospice will be the beneficiary of proceeds from the Port Perry Waterfront Ribfest, and other Rotary Club of Port Perry fundraisers. A whopping $150,000 has been pledged. Despite the weather, Rotary Club President Jim Jenkins reported that the 2nd annual Ribfest was still a great success. During the 2017 Civic Holiday weekend, 14,000 people came out to enjoy tasty ribs, ice-cream, corn on the cob, adult beverages and entertainment. Fun activities for children were also featured at the three-day festival. So many people thanked the Rotarians for hosting the event and said that they really enjoyed themselves, Jim added. There were 21,000 attendees at the first Ribfest in 2016. “It’s good to share what’s going on,” said Jim, who was happy to announce that the net profit from the 2017 Ribfest was a whopping $35,000. In addition, $20,000 was raised through the Raffle Draw. The grand prize of a $10,000 Dream Cruise Travel Voucher was donated by Expedia Cruise Ship Centre North Durham and Royal Caribbean International. “We were so thrilled to have a hometown girl win this prize,” Jim said. The lucky ticket holder was Community Care volunteer, Jill Howsam Adomeit, along with her husband Chris. Plans are on the drawing board for the 3rd annual Ashley Tanti with her parents Terry and Christine Vos lovin’ the ribs – all for a great cause too!
