4 FOCUS - JANUARY 2018 or a heart shaped wing design. There are hooks on the back to hang them on a wall. Because of the weight of the ashes, they fall to the front of the mold, so they are clearly visible. Half a cup of ashes is required for the angel wings. It is also possible to create 3-D sculptures, or a statue or bust of a person or pet. With the use of a laser printer, any size can be manufactured. Motifs of a paw print, heart or dove are currently available for the resin keychains, which only take a table- spoon of ashes. Robin’s family “really got on board” with this new business. She’s been married to her husband, Joe, for 25 years, and he is “very supportive.” “I’velearnedalotaboutmykidsthroughstartingthis,” Robin said. When they were vendors at a pet trade show at the Convention Centre in Mississauga, Robin realized what a good salesman her son Adam is. Son Christopher is “the best worker bee,” and he helps make the statues. “We take great pride and care when we are making them,” Robin said. “And I always say a little prayer when we put the ashes in. It’s all very personal to us.” Daughter-in-law Samantha has been a great asset, by designing the website, calling vets and pet crematoriums, and helping with the show. “Artsy” daughter-in-law Candice came up with the actual designs for the wings. She also brainstormed the idea for the keychains. Together Forever’s first customer was a gentleman from Buffalo who attended the Mississauga show. He came back the second day with the ashes for four pets. Her sister-in-law chose the heart-shaped wings for her dear dog’s ashes. One client had his pet’s ashes for 20 years, and “didn’t know what to do with them” until he discovered Together Forever. “Customers were hugging us at the pet show, with tears in their eyes,” Robin recalls. When the time comes, Robin certainly intends to add the ashes of her beloved pets to commemorative sculp- tures to honour their memory. She has three dogs: Jersey, Brooklyn and Charley, and a cat named Karma. Right wing and heart-shaped wing.
