FOCUS-JUNE20127Forthe4rsttimeevertherewillbenoWestonsattendingagettogetherorreunion.TheentireWestonfamilyhasbeeninvitedtoBritainforthecelebrationsandasJeanBaileysaysx1cWewillverymuchmisstheirpresencebuttheydeservesomuchtobethere.Theyhavecontributedanincredibleherwithtenrollsof4lmtellinghernottobringunexposed4lmbackwithher.LuckilymanyaspectsofTheWestonGirlsx19tripofalifetimewascapturedon4lm.ThegirlsreturnedtoCanadaJuly71953.Eachwentbacktosharetheirstoriesandlessons.Jeantouredthecountrysidethatfallalwayswithherdadandshowedhermoviesandspoketoasmanypeopleasshecouldaboutthegreaterworldshegottoexperience.Timedidastimedoesitmovedon.ManyofthegirlsmarriedmanymovedawayfromtheirfarmsandwentgreatdistancesacrossCanada.Theyearsscat-teredthemallthroughouttheyearsandthenbeforetheQueenx19sJubileeinCal-garyin2003cominguptothe50than-niversaryofthecoronationandthegirlx19stripitwasdecidedtohaveareunion.Incredibly43oftheoriginalWestonGirlswerefound.Onlythreehaddiedandsomewerenotabletotravelsotheirreunionsaw34ofthemgettogethertosharehalfacenturyofmemories.ThisyearQueenElizabethcelebrates60yearsasQueen.Althoughx18TheWestonGirlsx19attendedthecorona-tion59yearsagotheyhavedecidedtocel-ebratewiththeQueenthisyearandhavetheirreunionthe4rstweek-endinJuneinBurling-ton.PreviousreunionswereheldinOttawaSt.Johnx19sandVictoriasotheOntariogirlsarelookingforwardtohostingthisspecialone.TheyhaveanexcellentlineupofculturaleventstoattendfromaplayattheShawFestivaltotheMcMichaelGallerytheRoyalBotanicalGardensinHamiltonandaformalSaturdaynightbanquet.AspecialSundaymorningbreakfastwillcoincidewiththeshowingontelevisionoftheRoyalFlotillaontheThamesRiverinLondonwhichisalargeeventfortheQueenx19scelebrations.JeanattendedtheCoronationofQueenElizabethIIinLondonEnglandonJune21953Thex18WestonGirlsx19willcelebratetheDiamondJubileeofQueenElizabethIIatareunionthisJulyinBurlingonamountoftimemoneyandgoodwilltomakingourworldabetterplace.x1dTheywillrecordtheirreunionsoitcanbesharedwiththosewhocannotattend.ForpurposesofspaceJeanx19sstoryhasbeencon-densed.Luckilythreeyearsagotheladieswroteabookcalledx1cWestonGirlsTourMemoryBook1953x1d.Agoodportionoftheirstoryisonlineatwww.westongirlstour.ca.Jeanx19sfatherx19smoviecamerapurchasehasenabledthe4lmovertimetobetransferredintomanyincarna-tionsthelastonebeingaDVD.Jeanhastakeneveryadvantageofthemagicalgiftshewasgivenasa17year-oldgirl.NeverasayounggirlatSS.No.2SchoolonScugogIslandcouldJeanhaveimaginedthepathherlifewouldtake.Sheisbeyondthankfulattheopportunityshewasgiven.Shesayssometimesitshardtoputintowordsallsheexperienced.Shetellsmesomethingsoclearsheremem-bersitasifitwasyesterday.Newfoundlandbecameaprovincein1949.WhenthegirlsreturnedandmetwithMr.WestonandsharedwhattheylearnedthefarmgirlfromNewfoundlandstoodupandsaidx1cWhenIleftCanadaIwasaNewfoundlander.IhavereturnedhomeaCanadian.x1dAndsotheyalldid.ByMarjorieFlemingFocusonScugogJeanBaileyat16yearsoldin1952.TheRoyalCanadianMinthasreleasedanumberofcoinstomarkthe60thanniversaryoftheQueenincludinga2012Canada50-CentSilverPlatedColouredCoin.Thecoinx19sspecialfeaturesincludealargercoinplatedinsilverpackagedinacolourfulfolder.AgarlandofmapleleavescradlestheQueenx19smonogramEIIRandSt.Edwardx19sCrown5ankedbytheyears1952and2012incelebrationoftheQueenx19sDiamondJubilee.Thecoinisavailablefor29.95atCanadaPostoutlets.DiamondJubileeCanadian50centcoinAconcertxctforaQueenMembersofthePortPerryUnitedChurchcongregationwillcelebratetheDiamondJubileeofQueenElizabethIIbypresentingaspecialconcertonJune3startingat3p.m.TheconcertwillfeaturemusicfromtheQueenx19scoronationandateawillbeservedattheconclusionoftheconcert.Ticketsforthisspecialconcertare15andareavailableattheUnitedChurchof4ceorbycalling905-985-2801.Seatsarelimitedsoactquicklytoavoiddisappointment.
