4 FOCUS - DECEMBER 2018 began a restoration process which is still ongoing. Guy Latreille bought and restored the St Charles Hotel (Remax Real Estate). More recently, along with his family, he bought the former Currie building at the northeast corner of Queen and Perry Street. “Our goal was to gradually restore the building to its original splendour,” he says. “Over the years, a number of repairs and remodelling of the brick work has taken place not having any regard for type of brick and colour of brick. This year our target was to restore the brickwork to its 1885 ap- pearance. Working from a period pic- ture of the Currie block we decided to use yellow bricks where possible and stain the red bricks yellow where the period picture showed them as yel- low accents.” Guy continued, “Tanya and Brett, my daughter and son-in-law, are dedicated to continue the restoration of this beautiful building. Our future undertakings include replacing up- per floor windows with period single hung windows and returning the store front to its original appearance.” Earlier this year, the scaffolding was removed from the Brock building revealing the extensive re-creation of the parapet work above the building, and the restoration of the brickwork. Marina and Julie Brock jointly own the building that has been in the LOOK UP! - at the meticulously restored Victorian brickwork on the old Currie Building at the northeast corner of Queen and Mary Streets.
