FOCUS - DECEMBER 2018 49 The 12th annual Scugog Hall of Fame Induction ceremony was by all accounts a wild success. Over 200 people attended the event on Thursday November 8 at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre that featured headline speaker Joe Bowen. The timing for Mr. Bowen’s appear- ance was perfect as he is a Hockey Hall of Fame Inductee for 2018 and his own induction was on Monday November 12. Mr. Bowen had the crowd laughing with some of his best Leaf stories but also had a message for parents with children involved in sport. The message is “Let them have fun.” Joe has 4 sons who have all played minor hockey and he has been supportive of them all along, but never crossed the line. The 2018 inductees all gave inspir- ing speeches about how they got to this point. The 2018 Young Guns were recognized first. Ashley Adams, Madeline Laird, Brooklynn Feasby and Shauna Kuebeck were all pre- sented pins for their achievements to date. The 1980/81 Malmont FarmsAtom team was inducted as OMHA CC Champs. Larissa D’Alleva was acknowl- edged for her stellar wrestling career. The 1979/80 Colin Ball Midgets were inducted for there OMHA Midget C title win. In the Builders Category Jill Baranowski, Rose McNally, Angie Churchill and Debbie Tarbotten were inducted for their incredible work in making a dream become reality for the Scugog Women’s Hockey League. Master of Ceremonies Jordan Mercier kept the program running smoothly and did his usual profes- sional job. He’s becoming an old hand at this. HallofFameInductionCommittee Chairperson Leanne Ashbridge said it best. “I know this is going to sound like a broken record, but every year we feel we have put on a better event than the previous year. This year is no exception. From Mr. Bowen’s out- standing talk, to the stirring speeches of all of the inductees, this evening was an unqualified success. And again, we can’t wait until next year”, offered Ms. Ashbridge. And she add- ed. “In order to keep this going we will need help from the public. We would love to see more nominations for future inductees.
