28 FOCUS - NOVEMBER 2018 250 Queen Street Port Perry 905-985-9791 inclusiveadvisory.ca (formerly Scugog Accounting) JOE BOWEN announced as Guest Speaker at Design by Imantis The Scugog Hall of Fame Induction Committee is pleased to announce this year’s keynote speaker. Any fan of the game of hockey will recognize the name Joe Bowen. His catchphrase is “Holy Mackinaw!”, typically used when an amazing goal is scored or a big save is made. Bowen claims he got the phrase from his dad who said “Holy Mackinaw” instead of swearing. He is also known for his creative alliteration when announcing the starting goaltenders (e.g. technicians of the tangled twine, watch- dogs of the webbed wickets, officers of the oblong onion bags, etc.) Bowen does the radio play-by-play on Sportsnet 590 The Fan or TSN Radio 1050 with Jim Ralph. On March 7, 2017, Bowen called his 3,000th game as Voice of the Leafs, a 3-2 home victory over the Detroit Red Wings. In June 2018, the Hockey Hall of Fame announced that Bowen was named as the 2018 winner of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, honouring outstanding contri- butions by a hockey broadcaster. Scugog HOF Committee Chair Leanne Ashbridge is pleased with the announcement. “The name Joe Bowen resonates with all hockey fans, especially those of the Toronto Maple Leafs. To have Mr. Bowen speak at our event on the eve of his being honoured by the Hockey Hall of Fame is a privilege, indeed. We couldn’t be happier.” The Scugog Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be held on Thursday November 8, with the festivities begin- ning at 7 p.m. All are welcome, so come out and support your local athletes on their enshrinement, and have a word with Mr. Bowen.
