The annual event raises money for five valuable charities here in North Durham. Big Brothers Big Sisters North Durham, North House, Community Care Scugog, Joanne’s House and YWCAsecond stage centre for Women. This year’s 10th anniversary tour included six lovely homes of varying architectural style, age and size, a beau- tiful garden full of whimsical touches and the Port Perry United Church with its doors wide open for all to visit and enjoy a slide show displaying the charitable congregation’s history. Organist Joan Bretney wowed the crowds by play- ing the organ. The warm smell of scones, jam and coffee from the “cafe” in the auditorium was an absolute treat, all included with the ticket price. Homemade jams were available for purchase and quickly sold out. Many enjoyed a super fun photo booth. The Community Outreach Committee of Port Perry United Church will be proud to give a substantial dollar amount to each one of the five charities with the money raised from the tour tickets, jams, a lasagna dinner held last winter, as well donations from local business spon- sors and residents in the community. Events such as this owe a huge thank you to our local media, who helps get the word out. The Focus on Scugog plays a big role and we are so thankful for your monthly publications support.
