You never know what famous skaters will show up at the Port Perry Skating Club’s 60th anniversary carnival. Club alumni will be invited to join the celebration. Many successful skaters had their start at the local club. Role models for up -and -coming young skaters include pair’s champions Anna Forder and Richard Stephens, whose career culminated in representing Canada on the Canadian Olympic Team in France in 1968. Other acclaimed dance pairs from the 1970s include Jeanne MacTavish and Peter Vernon, Dennis Johnston and Kelly Hume. And the list goes on…. DOWN MEMORY LANE The annual Skating Carnival on March 30, 2019 is sure to bring back memories. Tawni Shepperdson noted that the carnival theme is in the early planning stages. For inspiration, organizers plan to go through the different decades, beginning with the 1960s, to research what was popular during those periods of time. Invitations will be sent out to past skaters to come to the Carnival to be acknowledged. The Club was formed back in the fall of 1958 with 100 members.
