FOCUS - SEPTEMBER 2018 35 Oh no! The obstetrician is found dead…and it’s up to you to find out who the murderer is! Get your ticket for the upcoming Murder Mystery Night at Scugog Shores Museum, and help solve the crime. Billed as an interactive night of intrigue, this special event takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday September 7. Members of the public are invited to play detective, by questioning the suspects – the costumed characters lurk- ing in the historic buildings – for important clues as to what happened to end the life of the good doctor….Or was he? Scriptwriter Sandra Carrier wrote Carry-On Diagnosis Murder to celebrate the grand reopening of Lakeridge Health Port Perry, slated for Labour Day weekend. A nurse and Lamaze coach by day, Sandra enjoys writing murder mystery scripts in her spare time. It can take up to a year for her to complete a manuscript, scribbling down ideas here and there in her notebook. Sometimes some- one she knows is the inspiration for a main character. Other times it’s a certain era that twigs her imagination. “I just sit on the couch and scribble,” says Sandra. “It’s fun.” “Carry-On Diagnosis Murder is set in the swinging ’60s,” Sandra revealed. Her friends, people she works with, and folks she knows from around town, are always willing to volunteer to dress up in character and “star” in one of her murder mystery roles. Scugog Shores Museum has been hosting Murder Mystery Nights since 2003 and they are very popular, commented museum curator Shannon Kelly. Sandra has created most all of the scripts. A murder mystery fan herself; Sandra loves shows like Midsomer and Murdoch Mysteries. She even owns a beautiful antique hoosier cupboard, which appeared in an episode of Murdoch Mysteries, season 6. She bought it from Harvest Antiques in Oshawa, where she had the thrill of meeting some of the Murdoch people who were returning furniture that was borrowed for the set. Sandra treasures a gift from them: a copy of the script for the “Twisted Sister” episode. The Murder Mystery Night at Scugog Shores is an an- nual fall event and something to look forward to after the summer. It’s a fundraiser for the Museum, but this year, there will also be an opportunity to make a donation to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation.
