The evening recognized two Scugog Farm Connections award winners and 36 farm families in Scugog, plus others across Durham Region at the Canada 150 Gala. Recognition was given to a farm family that has been continually farming in Canada since 1867 and are still farming in Durham Region today. Marilyn Pearce, chair of the Durham Farm Connections Heritage project, shared pictures of each family farm along with the year the family started farming in Durham Region. “Enjoy seeing what agriculture looks like today in Durham Region,” said Marilyn. Farm families were called up by municipality and recognized and each received a Canada Farm Family gate sign and a certificate from the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance and Ontario Federation of Agriculture. The list continues to grow as more families submit their information.
