He served as president from 2007-2010. Doug can’t stress the importance of the local hospital enough. All three of his children were born there and they have visited the ER for various reasons. “Our hospital is integral to the suc- cessofthetownandthedesirabilityfor people to live here,” Doug noted. “It’s an outstanding community hospital.” Doug was chosen for the Mayor’s Honour Roll and also he received the 2010 Pharmacy Association of Ontario’s Mortar and Pestle award, for his contribution to his community, in recognition of his work with the hospital foundation. In 2015, he re- ceived the OPA’s Mentorship Award. “Incredibly surprised” was Doug’s reaction to being chosen out of 16,000 pharmacists in Ontario for the honour of the 2017 Pharmacist of the Year Award. At the black tie gala event in London where the annual awards were presented, Doug says that his daughter Natalie “stole the show!” When she jumped up to video the historic moment on her iPad, Doug says that everyone was taking pic- tures of her! Doug moved here from London in 1994 to continue his career at Big V, which was later bought out by Shoppers Drug Mart. It was meant to be, because he met his future wife, Kristy Dalton of Port Perry. They have been married for 13 years and have three daughters: Emily, 11, Natalie, 9 and Elyse, 7. They enjoy their life at the waterfront home they built in 1998 on Scugog Island.
