36 FOCUS - SEPTEMBER 2017 The Terry Fox Run is fun and awesome. I go to the Terry Fox Run because I know that it helps people that have cancer. When you come to the Run and buy a shirt and give a donation the money is used for cancer research to discover new medicines that will help people with cancer get better. The Terry Fox Run is a time to meet up with other families and have lots of fun. Every year I volunteer with my sister and granny. One of our jobs is to deliver posters; we walk along Queen Street and ask each business if they will put a poster up to tell people when the Run happens. When we’re done we go to the Nutty Chocolatier and get a big or little treat and it’s really fun. I like volunteering because it’s really fun. Since Nat Nat has been organizing a play area for kids, it’s way more fun. My sister Sarah and I like to help Nat Nat set up the play area and to take it down at the end. There’s music, lots and lots of games, tattoos and a place to meet up with my friends. I like the bowling, building blocks, colouring sheets, markers, bubbles and water sprayers. One of my jobs last year was filling the water sprayers, along with my friend; we filled them and then sprayed each other. The play area is mostly for kids but anyone can come and play. The fire truck was also there for us. There are different lengths that you can run, jog, walk or ride a bike. Last year we did the 5km route, the 1 km is too short for us and the 10 km is too long. This year my sister and I want to ride our bikes and 6-month-old Kate wearing her Terry Fox t-shirt. 10-year-old Kate with her plaque for 10 years of dedication. through the eyes of 10-year-old Kate McArthur, volunteering for her 11th run THE TERRY FOX RUN 4 1/2-year-old Kate with her 6-month-old sister Sarah..... ......What a difference 6 years makes!
