FOCUS - SEPTEMBER 2017 33 The Scugog Council for the Arts (SCA) is hosting an exciting evening of taste, sight and sound. This year’s Gala for the Arts takes place on Thursday, October 19 at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre. Harp & Wylie’s, Port Perry’s “upper-casual dining hot spot” is pleased to be involved in the gala by featuring a stimulating and interactive dining experience. Instead of a traditional plated meal, Harp & Wylie’s staff will be working out front, designing and creating each plate in full view of Gala guests. Patrons are invited to wander over, watch the cre- ative process and see what’s involved in the art of plating. Chef and co-owner Brent Harper is eager to showcase the work of his talented staff, in support of this important community event. This year’s gala date has been moved ahead by a month. It is being held in October instead of November, so don’t miss out on this earlier date. The gala is a major fundraising event for the Scugog Council for the Arts and enables it to continue supporting local artists. Those art- ists work in visual, performing, craft and literary arts. This ‘Feast for the Senses’ will stimulate your eyes and ears; not just your taste buds. Song, music and dance will be provided by the Port Perry Dance Academy, guitarist Paul Gardner and singer Donna LaJeunesse. Port Perry dancers bring their expressive lyrical dance movements to the stage. Donna LaJeunesse, a popular local singer, will enchant you with her beautiful voice. Paul Gardner will sooth your senses with his background acoustic guitar. Between watching, listening and eating, gala guests can cast their bids in a silent auction and a live auction for unique experiences, as well as joining other games of chance to win fabulous prizes. Truly, this promises to be a rousing night of fun, delicious food and entertainment. Gala organizers are working with Port Perry florist, Branching Out, to create a sumptuous and memorable backdrop for this luscious night. Rich fall colours and elegant arrangements will add those finishing touches of sensory delight. This is THE major fund-raising event for Scugog Council for the Arts. The SCA provides a physical space for local artists to exhibit their work. Spark the Arts gives financial assistance, in the form of seed money, to help launch artistic projects or events within Scugog.
