FOCUS - JULY 2017 19 to all my clientele over the last 40 years. Please know how much I have appreciated your business. Referrals are the core of our business to all my clientele over the last 40 years. John Lucyk The Scugog Council for the Arts is delighted to pres- ent a new gallery exhibit opening on July 8 with an artist reception from 1 to 3 p.m. This exhibit and sale of artwork features abstract paintings and photography. What’s on at the SCA this month ... Abstract paintings and photographs often evoke intense feelings and reactions. We see different things in them with each viewing, sometimes standing back and often getting up close to inspect the details. Composition, line, contrast, movement, colour and fo- cal point are just as important in abstract work as they are in representational work, may be even harder for the artist to do well, and can be challenging for the viewer to see. Abstract presents original paintings and photographs from SCA member artists. The show runs through to July 29. Visit the SCA Gallery at 181 Perry St., downtown Port Perry. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Information: 905-982-2121 or Abstract The Rotary Club of Port Perry has sponsored many worthwhile projects over the years in support of our great community. The club recently completed their commitment of $100,000 to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation for the renovations to our hospital. Always looking for new projects to support, the Rotary are now happy to say that their next endeavor is to assist with the first hospice in north Durham, ‘The Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham Ltd’, a facility for end of life care, located right here in Port Perry. The commitment to the hospice is $100,000 plus a pledge of a further $50,000 for a total of $150,000, by the end of 2018. Monies raised from their Spring Gala, along with the current ‘Win a Cruise Lottery’, the upcoming Rib Fest to be held on the August long weekend, as well as other projects, will enable them to fulfill this pledge. When you support Rotary you are helping others in our community. So when you see these hard working guys, along with their wives, at many of the events in town, please make a donation!
