This community theatre group, known for quality vocal per- formances over the years, has been a corner stone for the PerformingArts in Scugog since 1976, enriching the arts community, providing outstanding entertainment for audiences and per- formance opportunities for budding and veteran artists. On April 7 and 8, SCS presents a very special 40th ANNIVERSARY BROADWAY MUSICAL THEATRE CABARET, a revue-style show pay- ing musical tribute to the group’s best-loved shows of yesteryear along with cutting edge modern musicals and original works performed in recent years…plus a teaser of what is still to come for this innovative grass- roots community theatre. With a fast-moving revue/cabaret format, the anniversary show promis- es unsurpassed musical entertainment highlighting some of SCS’s best-loved productions including Broadway clas- sics South Pacific, My Fair Lady, Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, The Sound of Music, Oliver and others, along with selections from modern musicals Into the Woods, The Drowsy Chaperone, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Addams Family and dazzling teasers of coming production, collectively paying tribute to the past, present and future of SCS Musicals! Audiences will enjoy a variety funny and touch- ing scenes and songs from some of the best, most-requested musicals produced by Scugog Choral Society in its 40-year history. Fifteen ‘by request’ leading per- formers make up the star-studded cast, all on stage together for the first time, a true showcase of the past, pre- sent and future talent SCS Musicals has drawn. These include (alpha- betically, by first name) Alice Lee, Barbara Bone, Dale Woitte, Darren Klingenberg, Dean Peel, Deborah De Jong, Jennifer Mance, Judy Anderson, Kathy Knight, Liz Auston, Rick De Jong, Rick Huntington, Shelby Down and Walter Bone involved in solo, duet and group performances with Alissa Smith as Music Director, join- ing the cast on stage as piano conduc- tor and supporting vocals along with two additional musicians on bass and percussion. Narrative throughout the show by a number of past/present SCS Presi- dents will take audiences on a musi- cal journey through the past 40 years plus offer hints as to what the future holds. And with the show being a celebrated anniversary, members of the 2016-17 SCS Board of Directors will be performing in the show in a special way as well.
