Thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada and its ‘New Horizons for Seniors’ program, the Club has been able to purchase an assortment of devices . . . desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, etc. . . . which will enable participants to use and learn on a wide variety of systems. They will not only be able to practice on actual devices, but they will be able to determine which devices best suit their needs. Mayor Tom Rowett, who attended the launch of the project, congratulated the Club on achieving the grant that will help provide a more up-to-date link between seniors and the ‘younger generation’. Councillor Jennifer Back, also in attendance, remarked that seniors could now learn from their peers . . . rather than from their children! Members who are interested in learning how to use a computer, tablet or ipad can attend regularly scheduled classes held every Thursday afternoon at the Latcham Centre. Mini-lessons on specific topics, such as email or Facebook, can be arranged on a ‘one-to-one’ basis. The Club has a dozen volunteer mentors who are ready to of- fer help on virtually any topic or problem. The program offers Club members a great way to ‘stay in touch’ with friends and family through email or Facebook. Members can learn how to ‘surf the net’, ex- pand their hobby interests, keep abreast of the news and find out about the weather. Seniors interested in joining the Club may do so by dropping into the office in the Latcham Centre, by email at portpsc101@gmail.com or by calling 905-982-2192. In addition to the ‘Better Connected Seniors’ program, the Club offers many other activities ranging from euchre to woodcarving and from line dancing to pickleball. The an- nual membership fee is $15 and includes most activities. ‘BETTER CONNECTED SENIORS’ PROGRAM LAUNCHED BY PORT PERRY SENIORS CLUB
