THANK YOU Community partnership divides tasks and multiplies success PORT PERRY WATERFRONT RIBFEST RECAP The Rotary Club of Port Perry’s inaugural Waterfront Ribfest event was held July 29, 30 & 31 and was a huge success. Over 21,000 people attended the event. On Saturday, over 9,700 people came through the gates! “We enjoyed great weather, superb food, great bands and awesome volunteer support – what more could you ask for?” stated Rotary President Jim Brady. Mr. Brady noted some highlights from the event, including perfor- mances by the James Barker Band and Tom Clancy; the official opening by the Town Crier and the Best Ribs and Sauce awards! The Rotary Club of Port Perry has been planning this event for 8 months and it replaces the Aquarama fundraiser they ran in Palmer Park. Rotary has pledged $100,000 toward the current Port Perry Hospital renova- tions and proceeds from this event will assist the Club with meeting this commitment. In the past, the Club has provided funds for projects such as; an endoscopy suite for the Hospital, the addition to Scugog Public Library, scholarships for local stu- dents, international youth exchanges and improving literacy. The Club also contributes to Rotary International Projects in third world countries. While event organizers are still tallying results, some statistics on the event are available and Rotary has pro- duced a “Ribfest By The Numbers” Fact Sheet. Did you know 51% of the waste by weight or 85% by volume was diverted from landfill? President Brady explained, “In addition to all the hard work and planning by Rotarians, I think the biggest rea- sons the event was so successful was the support from our sponsors, participation from over 170 volunteers and the support received from Scugog Township Council and staff. It is this type of community partnership that allows all of us to pull this off.” For further information on Rotary, Ribfest or becom- ing a member of Rotary, please contact President Jim Brady at 416-520-6988 or jimbrady311@yahoo.ca or any member of the Rotary Club of Port Perry.
