26 FOCUS - AUGUST 2015 We all know there is lots to love about Port Perry and Scugog. This year the Scugog Council for the Arts wants you to put it to music in preparation for the Mayors Gala for the Arts. The gala theme this year is Scugog Rocks and the SCA is inviting singer songwriters to enter the Scugog Tribute Song Writing Contest. All genres of mu- sic are welcome and there will be three prizes of 500 awarded to the top artists that best reect a positive vibe for Scugog. The goal of the SCA is to support local arts and artists and that includes visual arts craft music theatre litera- ture and more. Were really excited about the song writ- ing competition said Gala chair Birgitta MacLeod. The three winning entries will have their world premiere at the event on November 5. Since there is no restriction on genre or age it will be interesting and of course entertaining. Deadline for the contest is September 8 2015. It truly is amazing how this town steps up to help one another. Vos Independent Grocer jumped on board immediately and handed over a cheque for 2554 and then the rest of the community really stepped up The goal was to raise 2500 to help build a playground and the outcome was incredible with over 6000 raised.
