FOCUS - JULY 2015 47 A charming little girl with an out- going personality Olivia is a local kindergarten student. She is already proficient at reading and spelling and shes already in grade two piano which is a rarity for her young age. Her Grandma Gladys Black says that Olivia does a fine rendition of Mary Had a Little Lamb. Olivia is proud of her bat ball and Blue Jay jersey. An active and happy child Olivia also enjoys dancing swimming riding her bike and tour- ing around on her two scooters one with two wheels and one with three wheels A student at R.H. Cornish shes going to be in the French Immersion program says her Grandma Gladys proudly. Olivia adores her baby brother Ryker who will be two in July and she spells out his name to make sure I get it right When she grows up Olivia says she wants to follow in the footsteps of two adults that she really admires. When asked about her future plans Olivia exclaims I want to be a doctor like Dr. S. Hyshka and a bus driver like my Dad And Ive got lots of friends even me Olivia enthuses. The fact that she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014 has cer- tainly not held her back. Heres what happened. When she was three Olivia experienced extreme stomach pain. Her parents Cheri and Peter Worr rushed her to Lakeridge Health Port Perry and then she went on to Oshawa Hospital and finally ended up at Sick Kids in Toronto. A blocked bowel was suspected but it turned out that she had a mass the size of an orange in her abdomen. On May 15 2014 Olivia was diagnosed with a Sertoli Leydig Stromal Tumor that was located on her right ovary. Apparently this type of tumor can go anywhere in the body and if it had chosen the brain for example it would have been brain cancer. Olivia began chemotherapy last June and lost her hair. She embraced this with enthusiasm because she knew that it meant that the treatment was working. Her red wig fashioned after Disney character Merida from the movie Brave was her favourite but she has quite a collection of wigs and hats said Grandma Gladys. A baseball style cap she is also fond of has a long blonde braid. Nothing kept her down said Grandma Gladys. There she was running around after the Easter eggs Every three months Olivia has to return to Sick Kids for tests. If you ask her how she is feeling she says Great and gives you a wondering look which says Why would you ask Proud to be a cancer survivor Olivias hair has grown back into a silky mop of chocolate-coloured curls. She used to have long hair and when Rosario Greco asked her if she was go- ing to grow it again she says Sure Rosario is the mover and shaker Please turn to page 48 Michelle LADIES OF DISTINCTION IN PORT PERRY Rosario and the staff of Styles are all wonderfully talented.
