FOCUS - SEPTEMBER 2018 37 proud to show off her butterfly to everyone at the funeral. The idea for Heavenly Butterflies was born…. About a year ago, Lynda officially started her new company. After much trial and error over three years to source the perfect butterflies, she finally found a supplier of lovely, delicate butterflies made out of feathers. They are very realistic looking. Colours available include gold, purple, Monarch orange and red. Lynda offers loose but- terflies and butterfly frames, decorated with butterflies, which can be customized with people’s names. There is a comforting message within the frame, explaining that whenever a person sees a real butterfly, “It’s a special forever sign between you and your loved one.” She tells the story of “a loved one from heaven sending their love.” A man experienced a butterfly following him and flying all around him. When it finally landed on his face, he knew that it was a visit from his late son. Having children participate in a funeral by placing a loose butterfly on their grandparent’s casket or urn “helps them lose their fear and makes them a part of it,” Lynda pointed out. The butterfly that they get to keep is very dear to them. Through word of mouth, Facebook and the website www.heavenlybutterflies.com, Lynda has had custom- ers from all over Canada – most recently, from Quebec, London and Collingwood, to name but a few. Locally, the Low & Low Funeral homes in Uxbridge and Port Perry offer her bereavement gifts, which Lynda pointed out can be alternatives to sending flowers. Her husband Brian is on board on the business side of things. They made sure that the prose in her butterfly frames has been copyrighted. Lynda is also an ordained minister, and she has per- formed five funerals. As a Reiki therapist, her energy work aids a variety of clients, from patients in palliative care to a woman with MS to stressed out high school students. “I feel that this is what I should be doing. It’s not about me,” Lynda concluded, modestly.
