14 FOCUS - SEPTEMBER 2018 We are the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. We are proud to be your neighbours. Our community economic development at the Great Blue Heron has been thriving for 20 years. In that time, we’ve contributed more than $12 million to the Township and Regional community through donations of more than $160,000 to the Scugog Memorial Public Library, more than $300,000 to UOIT and more than $1.5 million to the Port Perry Hospital. Since the year 2000, we’ve also given the Township $1.2 million every single year. In exchange, we’ve been provided with fire and emergency services. Very recently, the Township sent us a lawyer’s letter. They say they are going to stop the fire and emergency services if they don’t receive the same or more money under the new gaming agreements. We receive less than $10,000 in services annually. But we are willing to provide an additional payment of $150,000 to the Township annually. We have told this to the Township. MSIFN has chosen to continue in full its commitment to charitable donations. We have decided to reach out to you, our neighbours, to let you know how much we’ve given back to your community over the years. We are proud to be partners of the local Scugog community. We are happy to be here and contribute more than our fair share. scugogfirstnation.com
