FOCUS - JUNE 2017 11 Summer is just around the corner and Theatre3x60bringsPortPerrySummerTheatre back with another season of music, song, com- edy and drama. This season explores looking back and moving forward, from stories of local residents long gone, to young Canadians in love at the beginning of the 20th century, and to men and women managing the complexity of life and relationships in the 21st century. At Town Hall 1873, the season starts with Songs from the Shower, a musical cabaret co- production with Cadenza Productions. Songs from the Shower features six stellar performers who share their vocal guilty pleasures of con- temporary show tunes that reflect moments of introspection, action, decision and indecision with passion and humour. Music direction by Cadenza Productions founder, Carol Salamone and direction by Theatre 3x60 artistic director, Carey Nicholson. Songs from the Shower runs July 6-16. Also at Town Hall 1873, time turns back with two Canadian plays, both set in early 20th century Newfoundland. In David French’s classic Salt-Water Moon, eighteen-year-old Jacob Mercer returns from Toronto to his tiny hometown of Coley’s Point in 1926, hoping to win back his former sweetheart. Stephen Massicotte’s Mary’s Wedding showcases Mary and Charlie as they discover a charming first love, filled with innocence and humour, but the year is 1914 and the world is collapsing into a brutal war. Direction by Carey Nicholson. Salt-Water Moon runs July 8-22. Mary’s Wedding runs July 22-29. Step outside the theatre and take a walk through his- tory with Pine Grove Plots: History To Die For on alternate Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Starting July 9, Theatre 3x60 and the Lake Scugog Historical Society, with the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, will bring local heritage to life with a theatrical cemetery walk through Prince Albert’s Pine Grove Cemetery. In early August, Theatre 3x60 presents 3xCanadians, a staged reading series featuring 2 new plays by Durham playwright Kevin Thomas Craig and the Durham pre- miere of Stronger Freer by Marianne and Patrick Lannigan. The season wraps up back at Town Hall 1873, with the return of last summer’s hit one act play festival, Durham Minifest. Over two days, up to six theatre groups will perform Peter Paylor’s comedy The Rosewood Arts Society, established 1903, a delightful look at the inner workings of small town committees. See two, four or all six perfor- mances and enjoy the entertaining and educational work- shops that follow each presentation. Lindsay Price of Theatrefolk, returns as the festival workshop leader. Durham Minifest runs Friday August 11 and Saturday August 12. Tickets are on sale now for all productions at Town Hall 1873. There are special rates for students, seniors and groups. Theatre 3x60 also supports “Eyego to the Arts”, which pro- vides special ticket prices for high school students.
