Lloyd’s favourite carving, is this one of a moose. Wooden boots carved by Lloyd hang on his door to greet his visitors. Before he retired, Lloyd spent over 32 years as an employee at General Motors. Lloyd tears up when he tells the story of Annie passing away just five days prior to their landmark 67th wedding anniversary. She had suf- fered a stroke, which led to the can- cellation of their anniversary cruise. It was not meant to be that Lloyd served in the Navy, but he certainly enjoyed spending time on the water recreationally. Along with family members, Lloyd has enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean, plus a sce- nic Alaskan excursion aboard the Statendam. Ever since he was 16 years old, Lloyd has been a wood carver. His subject matter is primarily realistic renderings of animals and birds. He has also created statues of whimsical characters, including a tennis player and a cowboy. A talented artist who employs the ‘carving in the round’ technique, he has captured the images of bears, a fox, hummingbirds, a blue jay, bison and deer, all in intricate detail. He also fashioned a beautiful praying hands relief carving out of maple and walnut. Wooden boots adorn his door to greet visitors. And he won’t get his cane mixed up with anyone else’s. Hand-crafted, Lloyd made himself a unique wood- en cane with a hammer top shaped handle.
