New mini stick arena a fitting tribute to Tyler Hanson On Saturday October 1, a new mini stick arena opened in the Scugog Recreation Centre to honour 12-year-old Tyler Hanson who loved hockey. Tyler passed away as a result of a tragic accident September 21, 2015. Above, front row, Tyler’s mom Adrianna, brother Trevor and dad Troy were joined by Val Kane, Bobbie Drew, Janna Guido and Chris McAuley in the middle row and in the back row Craig Belfry and Mayor Tom Rowett. The logo on the right can be found at centre ice. It is a wonderful tribute to a fun loving young boy. October was Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) and on Friday October 21 from 1-3 p.m. a large group of people assembled at Vos’ Independent Grocer to make purchases and received $10 off. The purpose of this was to show support to Terry and Christine Vos who hire people with disabilities. Cash mob participants were encouraged to share their experience on social media. Community Living Durham North and the Ontario Disability Employment Network hosted the event.
