The 2016 Ontario Culture Days theme is “Create, Participate and Share”. Activities will be featured province-wide, to celebrate local talent. At the time of this interview, Scugog Council for the Arts (SCA) ArtsAdministrator Robin Bonkowski was busy confirming participation by many local artists, art studios, churches, restaurants and businesses. “The true message of Culture Days is to open doors in the community to arts and culture for three days,” she explained. This year, Port Perry is “reintroducing” the national Culture Days festival locally and it’s going to offer something to interest people of all ages. There will be multiple ven- ues for the attractions, but the home base will be the Scugog Council for the Arts at 181 Perry St. Come by to see local artists demonstrating plein air painting or sketching. On Saturday, October 1, the public is invited to the opening reception for a new one woman show at the SCA, featuring renowned print maker Angela Hennessey. Free of charge! A mini lecture on professionally curating, hanging, and administer- ing a gallery exhibit will follow. SCA preparateur Ron Peters and curator Marion Meyers will lead this infor- mative session. The Port Perry Downtown Arts Walk, led by a local artist, will in- clude an interesting variety of public art at Reflection Park, the Scugog War Memorial and the Waterfront Trail Bridge. Visitors are invited to the popular Kent Farndale Gallery exhibit at the library, plus, some local artists may open up their studios to the public. Music will entertain the crowds at various locations around town. Some local restaurants may offer special Culture Days themed menus. “We want to engage the whole community in different ways,” Robin said enthusiastically.
