22 FOCUS - AUGUST 2015 the tournament he recalls. The original organizers were asking to be replaced. Then a dreadful accident impaired two former students of mine. That year 2006 we supported their cause then switched to a combination of local charities going forward. It has been that way ever since. Personally I wanted a way to give back to the community and this opportunity was perfect for me. While he remains the public face of the event Rob is anxious to share the spotlight. Nobody could do a job of this magnitude by himself he admits humbly and this is no exception. I have a committee of five members from the league itself our Convenor Todd Wilbur players Richie Lefort David Roth Matt Roth and Dave Burnett as well as a pair of charity representatives Margie Ayres from the Big Brothers Big Sisters and Jill Howsam- Adomeit from Scugog Community Care. Theyre all very committed. 2015 represents the 15th year for the tournament which Rob proudly reports has raised an astounding 200000 since its inception. Annually the event attracts almost 130 golfers and donates somewhere in the neighbourhood of 15000. In addition to the golfers paid registrations the organ- izers have reached out to businesses within the community in an effort to expand their fundraising capability. We now have five sponsorship partners he said. As well we sell advertising to 70 local businesses. For their donation they get exposure on the various holes throughout the course on the main scoreboard and on the contest rules sheet. The community has been very generous in its support. A spiritual viewpoint would suggest what you send out into the world returns to you. This variety of synergistic exchange certainly exists between the Scugog Hockey League and its members community if the past 15 years are any barometer. Borrowing a hockey phrase that represents a highlight reel goal.
