IwasapartoftheLakeScugogStudiotourfor15years.IalsovolunteeredwiththeScugogCouncilfortheArts.LaterIservedastheirvice-president.AlabouroflovewasthecuratingoftheSCAsmonthlygalleryshows.MyhusbandRobbandIbothbecamediedinthewoolvolunteerswiththeMayorsAnnualfundrais-ingGalafortheArts.HeastreasurerandIasMrs.dogsbody.Robbanavidbridgeplayerjoinedawonderfulgroupoflike-mindedpeople.WewerealsoScottishCountryDancersfor10years.Icreatedtheirlogo.RobbandIwishtothankthepeopleofPortPerryforopeningtheirheartsandmindstous.PortPerryisamarveloustownwherewethoroughlyenjoyedourtimewiththebestofneighboursandagatheringoffriends.Tothankeveryonewouldtaketoomanypagesyouknowwhoyouareandhowmuchwetreasureyouall.Weshallbebackfromtimetotime.Myemailremainsthesamethekettleisalwaysonandvisitorsarewel-come.ThankyouonceagainPortPerrydenitelyaThumbsUpplacetolive.PamelaMeacherBarrieOntarioContinuedfrompage2DisappointedinfeeforskatingDearEditorIwouldliketogiveaThumbsDowntoScugogRecreationCentreforcharging3.50foranadultandonechildtousetheiceforParentsandTotsskatingonWednesdaysfrom930-1030a.m.Childrenusingthisparticulartimeframearemostlyunderfouryearsofageasanyoneolderisinschool.Theskatingusuallylastsanywherefrom5-15minutesformostpre-schoolers.Wetooktwograndkidstothearenaatacostof7forlessthan10minutesofskatingandweweretheonlyonesthere.Iwouldthinkparentsandtotsshouldbefreeoraminimalchargeforthetot.Getsomeadultsoutwithpreschoolerstoseeifthekidslikeit.ThenmaybemoreparentswillsignkidsupfortheexpensiveprogramsprovidedbyScugogRecreationCentre.Itisamajoreffortforanyparentgrandparentorcaregivertotakeachildouttoparentsandtotsskat-ingplusthecostofskatesandhelmets.Theicejustsitstherevacantprobablybecauseofthecost.Trymakingitfreeor1perkidandseeifitimprovestheattendance.Theparentsgrandparentscaregiverssuredontusethetimetoskateforthemselvestheirtimeisspenthelpingkids.DisappointedinScugogRecreationCentre.HarveyWilliamsPortPerryMailbox10FOCUS-MARCH2015ServicewaswayaboveandbeyondDearEditorIncelebrationofmymothersrecent85thbirthdayourfamilyagreedtogettogetheronFamilyDayforaChinesefoodfeastatmomsplaceinPortPerry.WealwayspurchaseourChinesefoodattheLuckyLamintheFoodBasicsPlazasoIcalledthedaybeforetomakesuretheyweregoingtobeopensinceitwasFamilyDay.TheyhadnotdecidediftheywouldopenyetsoIexplainedthatweneededtoknowassoonaspossibleaswewouldbeplacinganorderfor12peopleincelebrationofmymothers85thbirthday.Wereceivedacallbackacoupleofhourslater.Theownertoldusshewouldopenandaskedwhattimeweneededthefoodorder.Whenwetoldher2p.m.shesaidtheydontusuallyopenontheweekenduntilthattimebutcommentedonhowimportantan85thbirthdaywasandthattheywouldhaveitready.WhenmyhusbandDarrellandsonKylewenttopickupthefoodtheyfoundoutthattherestaurantwasactuallyclosedbuttheyhaddriveninfromoutoftowntomakethismealforus.Afterwepickedupourordertheyweregoinghomeagain.Thefoodwasabsolutelydeliciousandfreshandwehadafeast.Wewereabsolutelyamazedtheywouldgooutoftheirwaytoprepareonemeal.WewouldliketogivethemabigThumbsUp.SandiYokomSeagraveAppreciategreatsupportforsoupsDearEditorMysincerestthankstoeachandeverypersonwhobravedtheweatheronFebruary7thtoattendthe3rdAnnualDurhamChildrensAidFoundationSoupforThoughtbenet.Itwasafantasticeventthatwasgenerouslyattend-edandenthusiasticallysupportedbypeopleofallagesinthecommunity.AbigshoutoutgoestoourprimarysponsorTerryandChristineVosofVosIndependent.Aheartythumbsupmustgotoall11ofthesouppreparersfromtherestaurantsandserviceclubsinourincrediblecommunitywhoparticipatedwhenyoudishitoutweshowupCongratulationsgoouttoourJudgesChoicewinnerMarwansGlobalBistrowithhelpfromTheOldFlameBreweryandourPeoplesChoicewin-nerMapleLeafFoods.Asthevolunteerswhorantheeventandthestudentswholenttheircreativitytoeachandeverybowl.Youareallawonder.TheDurhamChildrensAidFoundationcontinuestobenetfromthesupportwendinthisgreattownanditsbecauseofallofyouthatwewereabletoraisemorethan6000forYouth-in-Careheadingtowardspost-secondaryeducationandChildren-in-Carehead-ingtosummercamp.LauraFrancisandJocelyneBoissonneaultSoupforThoughtCo-Chairs
