HonourRollHonourRollNeilSueBradleyandtheirCommunityPartnersNeilandSueBradleyandtheircom-munitypartnersChurchofTheAscensionImmaculateConceptionChurchPortPerryUnitedChurchandTheHopeChristianReformChurchfortheirinnovativecommu-nityx1cSoupsonUsx1dprogramme.Thisisawinterweeklyprogrammewhichprovidesafreelunchtoanyoneinthecom-munityaswellasgivingouradultswithspecialneedsanopportunitytolearnnewskills.Theprogramhelpsincarnatethevisionofaninclusivecommunitywhereallbelongandarevalued.Withtheirleadershiptheyarenowservingapproximately100lunchesperweek.BothKenandMargothavebeenheavilyinvolvedinthecommunityforyears.TogethertheyhavebeenactivewiththeCanadianRedCrossDurhamBranchfocusingonDisasterManagementsince2009to2011wheretheyhaveassistedlocallywithhousefirecallsaswellastragediesalloversouthernOntario.AsresidentsofCanterburyCommontheyhavebeeninvolvedintheactivitieswiththeCommonsareawithgolfdinnersdinnertheatreandsocialfunctions.InthebroadercommunitytheyhavebothbeeninvolvedwiththeDragonBoatFestivaltheHighlandsofDurhamGamesRotaryClubGolfTournamentvolunteersandOntarioGamesvolunteers.InadditionKenservedonScugogCouncilfrom1991to2000andassuchcontributedtothecommunityinmanycapacitiesandonmanycom-mittees.AsacommunitymemberhehasbeenontheDurhamRegionLandDivisionCommitteeandtheScugogCommitteeofAdjustmenttheScugogSteamboatFestivalCommitteeandtheScugogMemorialLibraryGalaDinnerCommittee.MargotisamemberoftheLakeridgeHealthPortPerryHospitalAuxiliaryassistingatthegiftshopandontagdays.SheisamemberofthePortPerryLegionLadiesAuxiliaryandhasjustretiredfromtheScugogRoadWatchwheresheservedthiscommunityfrom1997to2011.KenMargotGadsdenLakeridgeCitizensForCleanWaterTheLakeRidgeCitizensforCleanWatersx19tirelesscom-mitmentandadvocacyoftheimportanceofprotectingourgroundwaterontheOakRidgesMoraineduringthepasttwoyearshasearnedthemaplaceontheHonourRollfor2011.Theyawakenedthelocalresidentstothepossibledan-gersofthecommercialfilloperationonLakeridgeRoadandassistedthelocalpoliticiansandgovernmentagenciestobet-terregulateallcommercialfilloperations.TheirenthusiasmforthecausededicationtotheresearchaswellasadvicetotowncouncilsandagenciesinScugogandbeyondhavehadasignificantimpactonprotectingtheenvironmentandthedrinkingwaterformanypeopleandfuturegenerations.Theyhavebecomeavaluableresourcewithin-depthknowledgeoftheby-lawsandregulationsandthebusinessofcommercialfilloperationsthatdumpintogravelpitsjustabovethegroundwateraquifersthatmanyofourresidentsdependonfortheirdrinkingwater.ThesustainabilityofourTownshipiswellservedbysuchcommittedcompassionatecitizens.PortPerrySnowmobileClubPortPerrySnowmobileClubwasestablishedin1970.TheclubisaffiliatedwithCentralOntarioRegionSnowmobileClubsandTheOntarioFederationofSnowmobileClubs.Theyhaveover40volunteerswhomanageapproximately200kilometersoftrails.Theclubsoldover1000trailpermitslastyearandattractsridersfromacrosstheprovince.TheClubisresponsibleforpromotingsnowmobilesafetywintersportsandconservationthroughtrainingsafetyawarenessandtrailpatrols.PPSMCisapartnerwiththeDurhamBoardofTourismandtheScugogChamberofCommerce.Intheoffseasonvolunteerscleanuptrailsandconservationlandsofdebrisandremainsofillegaldumping.LocallytheclubraisesfundsandawarenessthroughactivitiesincludingYamafestcollectingfoodforOperationScugogtheProstateExtremeTeamtheannualPokerRunandthePortPerryHospitalFoundation.FamilyDayssup-portfamilyfunthroughoutdoorwinteractivities.ThePortPerryClubwasselectedasOIFMCCluboftheYearin2009fortheirworkandcommunityinvolvement.TheclubhouseislocatedonRussellRoadwherefriendsandvisitorsmeetaroundawarmfreandhotmeals.24FOCUS-JANUARY2012
